Kap Arkona
The natural monument in the north of Rügen
Cape Arkona, also known as the ‘North Cape’, is a 45-metre-high cliff in the north of Rügen. As a unique area monument in Germany, it impresses with its distinctive landscape and is one of the most popular excursion destinations on the island. In addition to the two lighthouses, of which the smaller tower is known as the ‘Schinkelturm’ (Schinkel Tower), there is a direction-finding tower, two military bunkers and the remains of the Jaromarsburg, a former Slavic place of worship. The two underground museum bunkers offer various exhibitions. The region can easily be explored on foot, by bicycle or during a carriage ride.
