Hiddensee
Island of artists and enjoyment of nature
Hiddensee, a small island off the west coast of Rügen, has always been a magnet for writers, poets and painters. Its reputation as an ‘island of artists’ has existed since the beginning in 1905, when a landing stage for motorboats was built. Since 1990, the island, which is embedded in the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park, has not only been a cultural attraction, but also a resting and breeding place for a variety of birds.
