Crime Trail on Fehmarn
With the newly developed digital crime trail, guests and locals can now slip into the role of investigators to solve a murder case involving a painting by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner. In cooperation with MyCityHighlight Europe GmbH from Hamburg, the Fehmarn Tourism Service has developed a 120-minute trail that leads through the old town of Burg to various stations.
With the new digital crime trail on Fehmarn, everyone can become a detective. Participants decide for themselves which clues they want to follow first. To do this, evidence is collected at the various investigation sites on Fehmarn, alibis are checked and evidence as well as statements from (digital) witnesses and suspects are cleverly combined. An investigation chat is used to exchange information with the control centre. As the investigation progresses, further clues to the crime are revealed. When the case is solved, the culprit is convicted directly online on the smartphone.
A murder of art around Ernst Ludwig Kirchner
Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, one of the leading representatives of Expressionism, spent a lot of time on Fehmarn during his time as an artist. The beauty of the coastal landscape and the light of the Baltic Sea were a decisive source of inspiration for his artistic work. During this phase, he created numerous works that captured life on the coast, the landscapes and the people. The island offered him retreat and creative freedom. In addition to the Ernst Ludwig Kirchner permanent exhibition in the municipal library in Burg, there are other alleys and buildings that refer to Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and his time on Fehmarn.
‘With the Crime Trail, we have developed an exciting story about an important artist, whose works can still be seen by visitors and locals today when strolling through Burg.
In the end, we didn't have to think long about what would be most suitable in relation to Ernst-Ludwig Kirchner's painting - namely a robbery with murder,’ says René Möllers, an animator at the Fehmarn Tourism Service.
Discover hidden places on Fehmarn
You can investigate alone or as a team. Whether with friends, colleagues or family: the Crime Thriller Trail allows you to discover completely new corners of Fehmarn.
The crime thriller tour not only shows the most beautiful sights of the city - it also leads off the beaten track to hidden corners of Fehmarn.
‘We are delighted to be able to offer both guests and locals a new, modern and exciting attraction in the form of the Crime Trail. Our aim was to create a new experience in keeping with the digital age, which also includes a cultural aspect of Fehmarn and thus arouses curiosity and interest in the artist Ernst-Ludwig Kirchner,’ says event manager Saskia Prange.

The exciting excursion on Fehmarn can be started at any time. Unlike many scheduled events, the Fehmarn Crime Thriller Trail can be played independently.
