Mittelberg cannot be reached from Austria. Due to its geographical location in the Allgäu Alps and the alpine terrain, Kleinwalsertal has no direct road connection to the rest of Vorarlberg or to the state of Austria. Kleinwalsertal can only be reached by car via a German road via the neighboring municipality of Oberstdorf.

Accessibility by car

Most routes meet in Ulm and continue on the A7 to the Allgäu (Kempten) motorway junction, towards Oberstdorf. After the Waltenhofen exit, the well-developed B19 leads via Sonthofen towards Oberstdorf and further into the Kleinwalsertal. You do not need an Austrian motorway vignette.

Coming from Oberstdorf in the Kleinwalsertal, you first drive through the villages of Riezlern and Hirschegg. At the entrance to Mittelberg on the right-hand side is the IFA Alpenrose Hotel.

Accessibility by train

For those arriving by train, the destination station is Oberstdorf in Allgäu, 22 km away.

Direct coaches run from Münster (Recklinghausen, Gelsenkirchen, Essen, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Cologne, Bonn), Hamburg, Munich, Augsburg, Berlin, Dresden, Hof/Regensburg and Chemnitz. (Info: Deutsche Bahn)

Take the public Walserbus - this runs every 15 minutes during peak season and is only 50 meters from the platform. The journey to Kleinwalsertal takes about 25 minutes. You are welcome to send your luggage ahead with the parcel service. (Please be sure to use the German postal code D-87569!)
